Psalm 42:1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
If you watched the Superbowl commercials, you may remember the “Tide to Go” ad where the shirt stain is commanding the entire focus when the two guys are trying to talk. If you haven’t seen it, you can view it here because it totally relates to my prayer life at times.
I can have the best of intentions when I start to pray but like trying to stack marbles, it’s only a matter of time before distractions start to creep in and everything starts to scatter. The world is constantly bombarding our senses and many times my thoughts get sidetracked when talking to God. I find it difficult to concentrate in a noisy or busy environment and more than once have realized I’ve abandoned God in the ghetto of thought. I mean, come on…is this not the God who created the heavens and the earth?! I think of the many Christians who have stated that prayer seems to be the weakest link in their life and yet Jesus said it is one of the most powerful tools we have. Why can’t we seem to master it? I sometimes believe it is because we do not practice it. I’m not saying that I don’t pray, but what I’m talking about is a serious and deliberate separation from the world in order to meet with THE GREAT I AM. I can only speak for me, but the occasional whim-sickle prayer that lasts about as long as a drink of water just doesn’t do it for me…I know this and yet I still do it frequently because I don’t make or take the time for intentional communication with my Savior. I have always found the best place for me to pray is in the quiet with no noise, no distractions, no place to run from God…
This year started anew for Jen and I and I want my prayer life to be renewed as well.
Give me words to speak…
